The Hallaton Helmet by Francesco Galluccio

News tags

Thanks to generous grants from Leicestershire Fieldworkers, Market Harborough & the Bowdens Charity, Market Harborough Historical Society and the Friends of Leicester and Leicestershire Museums, we were able to commission archaeologist Francesco Galluccio to create a replica Hallaton Helmet.

As part of the work to redisplay the Hallaton Helmet with new objects which opened in March 2024, two replica helmets were commissioned and Francesco Galluccio was one of the craftsmen to create one.

A shining silver and gold Roman cavalry helmet sits on a stand in front of a mosaic.

The finished replica with its silver-plated and gilded exterior gives an impression of how impressive the Hallaton Helmet once was.

Read all about Francesco’s work and see photographs of his progress on the Leicestershire County Council Museum Collections website. Visit Harborough Museum to see the Hallaton Treasure including the original helmet and replicas, which are on permanent display.
